KNEE-HIGH NATURALIST: At Moreau Lake State Park, 605 Old Saratoga Road, Gansevoort. 9 am. Geared toward children aged 2-5, (siblings welcome) Knee-high Naturalist is a fun introduction to nature. Every Thursday at 10 a.m. to play cards, use the craft room and play pool or just socialize. Lunch is at noon. At lunch the BASC Members may participate in Congregate Meals or bring your own lunch, your choice. Pizza every third Thursdays. On the fourth Thursday it is Pot Lunch, to participate bring something to share or pay $3 at the door. Coffee and hot water for tea will be available.

HISTORIAN TOUR: 10 am – Ballston Spa Sensory Tour. Anne Clothier, Education Director at Brookside Museum will explore the sights, sounds and smells of days of olde. Bring your children and grandchildren to this tour! Sponsored by the History Center at Brookside Museum. Registration must be made in advance at the History Center website https://brooksidemuseum.org/events/. A suggested donation of $10 per registration (individuals, couples or families) will support the programs of the History Center and a not-for-profit organization chosen by the tour leaders. Specific directions and parking locations will be provided to registrants in advance of the tour dates.

WIGGLY WANDERERS: At Moreau Lake State Park, 605 Old Saratoga Road, Gansevoort. 9:30 am. Wiggly wanderers is a weekly (every Friday) program that is offered to walking toddlers, carriable babies, and their caregivers. This will be a beginner’s hike/wander series for toddlers who are ready to move and caregivers who are willing and able to baby wear and/or carry their toddler if their legs get too tired. We will not plan too much distance walking and we will rely on teachable moments to carry us through these experiences. Strollers will not work for these programs. While you do not need to attend each week, we will continue to build our toddlers hiking skills as well as their caregivers’ confidence taking the children into the woods to explore. This program is a drop-in program, please be on time as we will be starting our hike at 9:35am.

BOOK CLUBS: At the Stillwater Public Library, 662 Hudson Ave, Stillwater. 1pm – Book Talk – read what you like and share! 7pm – Non-Fiction Book Club: “Cultish” by Amanda Motell.

BALLSTON AREA SENIORS ACTIVITIES: The Ballston Area Seniors will be meeting at the Town of Milton Community Center, 310 Northline Rd. Ballston Spa. Fridays: 1 pm-3 pm first Friday of the month Special Activities TBA, 11:15 am-noon – Exercise, 6:30 pm-9 pm – Table Pool.

FRIDAY AT THE LAKE: This summer’s final Friday at the Lake at Shepard Park, Canada Street, Lake George hits the stage this Friday. “Ten Most Wanted” is a powerhouse band based out of Saratoga that plays all your favorite classic R&B, Funk, Soul, and Rock favorites. They will perform from 7:30-9:30. “The Schmooze” opens the show, performing from 6:00-7:10. They have been one of the region’s premier party bands for the past 15 years. All Fridays at the Lake are free to the public, and food and beverage vendors are on site.

CARS AND COFFEE: The Town of Greenfield Lions Club are hosting a Cars & Coffee Event on Saturday Sept 2 at the Middle Grove Town Park, 430 Middle Grove Road, Middle Grove, from 8am to 11am. Event is Free and is open to any car or truck, including daily drivers. There will be a 50-50 raffle and door prizes for entered vehicles. This event is being sponsored by Ryan’s Garage. The Greenfield Lions will be selling fresh breakfast sandwiches and coffee. The public is invited to check out the vehicles.

MUSEUM SOCIAL: At the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, 191 Union Ave, Saratoga Springs. 9-11 am. The Museum will offer free admission from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. thanks to the sponsorship from the New York Thoroughbred Breeding and Development Fund. There will be complimentary coffee and doughnuts courtesy of Stewart’s Shops and water courtesy of Saratoga Water. The morning program will feature activities for kids by Amplify Horse Racing and a handicapping seminar by Tom Amello of Trackfacts.. Free to attend, books and prints available for purchase. WALKING TOUR: Hosted by the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation. Tours are limited to 30 participants each and tickets must be purchased in advance. Tours tend to sell out quickly, so participants are advised to purchase tickets early at www.saratogapreservation.org. Cost per tour is $15 for SSPF members and $20 for non-members. All tours last approximately 90 minutes and require walking and standing on varied terrain. FOREST BATHING: At Moreau Lake State Park, 605 Old Saratoga Road, Gansevoort. 9 am. Coined shinrin-yoku in Japan in the 1980’s, forest bathing is the ecotherapeutic practice of spending time immersed in nature, absorbing it with all of your senses. The physiological and psychological benefits last for days afterward with the additional benefit of a new appreciation of our precious woodland and its inhabitants. This is a beginner-rated walk along the Nature Trail with long pauses to sit and enhance our awareness of our surroundings. It is approximately a 2-hour program. A small mat is beneficial to ensure a dry seat. Pay $5 each (cash or check) at the office upon arrival. No children under 14 are permitted for this program due to the quiet, calm nature of it. MAKE A CORNHUSK DOLL: At Moreau Lake State Park, 605 Old Saratoga Road, Gansevoort. 2pm. In this program we will make the Haudenosaunee version of a Cornhusk doll, called a No Face doll, and learn the legend behind them. This is for all ages and all materials are provided. SARATOGA SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL MEETING: Saratoga Springs City Council meetings are regularly scheduled for 7 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 474 Broadway in Saratoga Springs. Meetings are held in the Council Room at City Hall at this time. Meetings are open to the public, and admission into the room will be on a first-come, first-served basis. CASINO HIRING EVENT: Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady is holding a hiring event Tuesday, September 5 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the casino’s Event Center. All vaccination certificates are written for one year. If a previous signed certificate is produced, a 3-year certificate will be written. Rabies can be carried by any wild mammal (raccoon, skunk, fox, coyote, or bat). There are also precautionary measures taken if you are bitten by a domestic animal (dog, cat or ferret). FOOD HUB WEBINAR: Saratoga Cornell Cooperative Extension USDA Food Hub Feasibility Study Webinar Series. Noon-1pm Sept. 6, 13, 20, and 27. Links will be emailed to registered participants. The Food Hub Feasibility Study.webinar series explores the findings of a study conducted by Saratoga CCE, which was funded by the USDA’s 2021 Local Food Promotion Program grant. Through research, analysis, and on-the-ground work, this study details available and potential markets for local foods. We offer recommendations to best service the local food system that considers distribution, infrastructure, farm-to-institution, food access, the emergency food system, and climate change.

MAKE A COPPER BOWL: At the Adirondack Folk School, 51 Main Street Lake Luzerne. 9am-4pm. Tuition $130. Member Tuition $710. Materials fee $90. In this class students will create a beautiful copper bowl from a 12″ x 12″ sheet of 16-gauge copper. Students will pound and hand tool the sheet into a 9″ diameter, approx. 2″ deep bowl. Students will also make a decorative vine with leaves from copper that will be attached to the rim of the bowl. Some soldering will be involved in this class.

GARAGE SALE: The 29th annual Greenfield Town-Wide Garage and Craft Sale is Sept 9 and Sept 10 – 9am to 4pm, Rain or Shine. There are sales located throughout the Town of Greenfield. There are several events going on including a Vendor/Craft Sale, Greenfield Lions Food and Lions Silent Auction, Greenfield Leo Club Food drive all at 31 Wilton Road, across from the Greenfield Center Baptist Church. There will be a Kids Eye Screening for 6 month of age to 7 years of age at the Greenfield Community Center, from noon to 2pm. Email Lion Andrea Penamora at [email protected] for a time slot. BRIGADOON CONCERT: Home Made Theater, in partnership with Saratoga Arts will presenta concert staging of the classic Lerner and Loewe musical Brigadoon. It will be performed in Congress Park beginning at 5:00. This concert is free and funded by the Saratoga Springs Participatory Budgeting Program. “Pass the hat” donations will gladly be accepted. This concert performance will feature a 19-member cast and an eight-piece orchestra, but minimal set and costumes, and very few technical aspects to emphasize the music of this Broadway masterpiece.

DEFENSIVE DRIVING CLASS: On Saturday September 10 from 9 AM to 3 PM, there will be a New York State approved Defensive Driving Class. Save 10% on your base auto insurance for the next three years & receive up to 4 points off your driving record according to New York State Department of Motor Vehicle guidelines. The class will be at Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church, 175 Fifth Avenue Saratoga Springs. Fee: $35 per person. Bring a friend fee is $30 each. Portion of each fee goes to the church. FAMILY HIKE: At Moreau Lake State Park, 605 Old Saratoga Road, Gansevoort. 2pm. Family hikes are slower paced, easy-going walks intended to comfortably bring people together innature. All ages and abilities are welcome to join in. The pace and path will be determined by the group at the time of the hike. LINE DANCING: The Salem Fire Dept will be hosting a beginner’s Country Line Dancing class taught by Kevin Richards. MAKE A COPPER LANTERN: At the Adirondack Folk School, 51 Main Street Lake Luzerne. 9am-4pm. Tuition $130. Member Tuition $105. Materials fee $90. Create your own copper Lantern on a Bluestone base. You will punch and shape the copper sides and top and attach them to a stone base. The Lantern features a glass drop, soldered into the 3 sides of the lantern. The punched holes and glass create a pleasant appearance when lit with a candle. The Lantern will be 9 ½” tall, and the base is 5 ½” by 5 ½”.

PLANT SALE: At Moreau Lake State Park, 605 Old Saratoga Road, Gansevoort. 11am. The Green Team (Master Gardeners and Friends of Moreau) will hold a plant sale at the Bathhouse at Moreau Lake State Park. The Green Team gardens at both Moreau State Park and Grant Cottage, utilizing sustainable practices. Money from the plant sale will be used for Green Team gardening supplies: seeds, plants, soil and tools. On the sale tables will be perennials (including natives), houseplants, bulbs and seeds. All plants will have been triple washed and potted in a new medium to prevent hitchhikers. Plant prices: $1.00-$10.00, cash only. HISTORICAL PRESENTATION: At Ulysses S. Grant Cottage, 1000 Mt. McGregor Rd. Wilton. 1pm. “Grant’s Underappreciated Peace Legacy” is presented by author and historian Frank Scaturro. General Grant earned lasting fame in the annals of military history as the victorious general who forged Union victory during the Civil War. Far less remembered are his achievements advancing peace in his postwar career. It turns out that the epitaph on Grant’s Tomb, “Let us have peace,” is meaningful even beyond Grant’s better-known feats. The program honors the U.N.’s International Day of Peace. A book signing will be held at the conclusion of the program.

LIVE PERFORMANCE: The UAlbany Performing Arts Center is pleased to kick off its 2023-24 season of guest performances on Sunday, September 24 at 2pm with “Rising Tide: The Crossroads Project,” a multi-disciplinary live performance fusing original music with art, imagery, and science to address global sustainability. The 75-minute program is free and will take place at the UAlbany Performing Arts Center on the uptown University at Albany campus, located at 1400 Washington Avenue. Russ Vandervoort, Waterford Town Historian will lead a walking tour of downtown Waterford, describing local landmarks and influential residents who lived there in the mid-19th century. FOOD HUB WEBINAR: Saratoga Cornell Cooperative Extension USDA Food Hub Feasibility Study Webinar Series. Noon-1pm Sept. 6, 13, 20, and 27. Links will be emailed to registered participants. The Food Hub Feasibility Study.webinar series explores the findings of a study conducted by Saratoga CCE, which was funded by the USDA’s 2021 Local Food Promotion Program grant. Through research, analysis, and on-the-ground work, this study details available and potential markets for local foods. We offer recommendations to best service the local food system that considers distribution, infrastructure, farm-to-institution, food access, the emergency food system, and climate change.

We meet in the Nature Center where we begin by reading a nature-themed book or two and then take a short walk together outdoors, keeping our eyes open for animal tracks, shells, feathers, and other signs of the natural world around us. LINE DANCING: The Salem Fire Dept will be hosting a beginner’s Country Line Dancing class taught by Kevin Richards. There will be 4 classes, on September 21 & 28, and October 5 & 12.All of the classes will be held at the firehouse located at 53 South Main St and will run from 6:30-7:30pm. There is a minimum of 20 to be able to start the class and it is $20 per class ($10 to Mr. Richards and $10 to the fire dept). Wiggly wanderers is a weekly (every Friday) program that is offered to walking toddlers, carriable babies, and their caregivers.
