Therabody adds to its roster of wellness tools with the new RecoveryTherm Cube

Hot and cold therapy are the forehand and backhand of sports injury treatment. The modalities are tried-and-true standards for dealing with the aches and pains that can accompany activity. Applying heat encourages blood flow to loosen up sore muscles and joints before exercise, while a cold pack shrinks blood vessels to help reduce discomfort and inflammation caused by injury or overuse.

Each method has its own merits, but combining the two—contrast therapy—can bolster the restorative effects. The rapid changes in body temperature causes blood vessels to seesaw between dilating and constricting for a pump-like effect. The increased circulation can help relieve pain, promote healing and quicken recovery. However, whether performed with hot and cold water plunges or alternating ice and heat packs, it can be a laborious process.
